CHWB participated in a successful health and employability day with Dunedin Canmore Group at The White House, 70 Niddre Mains Road, Craigmillar, Edinburgh.
The White House, now a community center, is a refurbished art deco pub (called The White House) that has had a £2 million refurbishment and was open earlier this year by Kenny Mackaskill MSP.
A CHWB team of volunteer healthcare professionals (including pharmacists, nurses, nutritionists, complementary and motivational therapists, and exercise specialists) aim to complement traditional healthcare services by focusing attention on anticipatory care and prevention. By attending events and providing screening services and lifestyle guidance we can significantly reduce the number of people developing long-term health conditions.

The Centre of Health and Wellbeing (CHWB) was launched in the Scottish Parliament at an event attended by over 100 politicians, health practitioners, social entrepreneurs and other key figures. This Novo Nordisk-sponsored event was hosted by Christine Graham MSP and provided a platform to introduce the CHWB and our health service “WHY” to a wide audience. Antonia Swinson of the Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition explained the importance of social enterprise in promoting health and Dr Lubna Kerr set out how the “WHY” programme would work. Her groundbreaking work in the diabetes field created the model on which “WHY” was based. This fun and participative event allowed attendees the chance to try out reflexology and massage, and to have their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels checked.
